Paul designed this course as a way for students of any age and most levels of fitness to step into the benefits of Circle Walking while holding energy postures — without having to do more complex bagua stepping and form movements that can otherwise provide a barrier to getting started.
The specifics of how to apply bagua’s internal development to typical, heel-toe stepping is incredibly effective in generating health and vitality while relaxing, strengthening and increasing flexibility in the body, and generating a lot of qi (life-force energy) that you can carry into your day.
Walking the Circle: How It Works
First, when walking is paired with the internal power development (neigong) techniques — that which is responsible for the health benefits associated with tai chi and qigong — you can supercharge the benefits you can get from walking in the same amount of practice time.
Holding the set of four or eight energy postures further amplifies qi flows throughout your body (as well as in specific ways to progressively and systematically open, strengthen and unify your body, mind and qi.
Once you have the basic down pat, if you’re able to speed up and eventually walk fast, you can take your practice to the next level by bringing in the element of aerobic exercise — the health benefits of which are well-documented across cultures around the world.
But that’s not all. Walking in a Circle and changing directions — without stopping — creates a vortex of energy which aids your ability to contact, open up, and release stuck and bound areas in your body, mind and qi.
While slow-motion practices like tai chi and qigong help heal, strengthen and open your body, they don’t offer the added benefits of aerobic exercise. This is where bagua classically comes into internal arts training. However, all students start out moving slowly to learn and develop core techniques to open up the body from the inside, and progressively release long-term, accumulated tension and the vascular system. With the vascular system open and cleared to some degree, even a small rise in heart rate dramatically increases blood circulation — without putting undue tension on the heart, as heavier training can.
WHAT’S IN THE COURSE
Participants will go through a deep process to stretch, open up, heal and strengthen their body through Walking the Circle and holding energy postures. The combination of applying the profound neigong though Walking the Circle and holding postures gives the body, mind and qi a total workout that can be done in any medium-sized room at home without having to go to the gym!
This 90-day programme is structured as follows:
Month 1 - learn stepping and turning techniques, how to circle the arms while walking and Posture Zero.
Month 2 - learn postures 1-4 and follow along to a beginning practice.
Month 3 - learn postures 5-8 and follow along to the complete eight-posture practice, which you can develop over many months and years.
This program is extremely efficient and can be developed for many years after completion in order to generate more profound health benefits and energise your system.
